A running toilet can waste hundreds of litres a day and it'll show up on your water bill. Usually it's a flush valve or a float valve, and it's cheap to put right.
New taps are the same. Bring me the tap or I'll get one for you, and it goes on straight with proper isolation so it can be serviced later without draining the house.
